My sister absolutely loves Minami in Yaletown, so for her birthday I thought I would take her to Miku. Minami opened after Miku, and I always have an affinity to “original” things (I never prefer sequels or remakes to originals). I also ate at Miku, then Minami in sequential order so my first exposure to Oshi Sushi was at Miku. My first bite of Oshi Sushi (at Miku) has resonated with me ever since as the original creator of Oshi Sushi.
That being said, a Minami frequenter, I told my sister that she had to try the original place that sold Oshi Sushi- Miku. In my mind, it would be slightly better than Minami, but by the end of dinner (I think it was our seating and our server) we had both decided that we preferred Minami over Miku. Ambience and service tipped the scale, but I found the food quality to be almost identical.
